Metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells operating with reformed natural gas and sulfur

چکیده
The performance, long-term durability, and thermal cycling tolerance of metal supported solid oxide fuel cells (MS-SOFCs) operating with natural gas reformate fuels is assessed. Symmetric MS-SOFCs composite SDC-Ni anode catalysts PrOx cathode are operated simulated steam-reformate partial-oxidation-reformate 1 ppm 5 sulfur. Cells for 1000 h initial degradation rates similar to humidified H2, performance differences attributed the lower H2 concentration in fuels. Additionally, tolerate many aggressive cycles sulfur present, minimal impact on performance. Post mortem analysis suggests that Ni particle coarsening Cr deposition sources degradation, while carbon not observed. Overall, operate successfully reformed gas.

IV.A.3 A Reversible Planar Solid Oxide Fuel-Fed Electrolysis Cell and Solid Oxide Fuel Cell for Hydrogen and Electricity Production Operating on Natural Gas/Biogas
Objectives • Develop the concept of a solid oxide fuel-fed electrolysis cell (SOFEC) for hydrogen production. • Identify and develop SOFEC cathode materials that are electrocatalytically and chemically stable in both reducing and oxidizing atmospheres. • Develop a novel concept of a composite/hybrid planar SOFEC-solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack to co-generate hydrogen and electricity. • Demon...
متن کاملStrategies for Lowering Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Operating Temperature
Lowering the operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) to the intermediate range (500–700 oC) has become one of the main SOFC research goals. High operating temperatures put numerous requirements on materials selection and on secondary units, limiting the commercial development of SOFCs. The present review first focuses on the main effects of reducing the operating temperature in ...

In this study, a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack has been successfully fabricated and tested by using direct natural gas. The main objective of this research was to achieve optimal long-term performance of the SOFC stack without carbon deposition by using low-cost natural gas as a fuel. The stack configuration was improved by a new interconnect design and made of cost-effective raw materials...

In this study we report on the development and operational data of a metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell with a thin film electrolyte under varying conditions. The metal-ceramic structure was developed for a mobile auxiliary power unit and offers power densities of 1 W/cm² at 800 °C, as well as robustness under mechanical, thermal and chemical stresses. A dense and thin yttria-doped zirconia ...
